What qualifications do you have ?

Just like you, I'm just a parent that decided to homeschool.  My highest educational level besides my street smarts and life experiences is a Bachelors Degree in Behavioral Science.  I've worked in Children Services for about 7 years and left the 9 to 5 work career to be a full time mom. I'm a mompreneur with several businesses raising 3 amazing sons along with my loving husband.  We've been married for over 18 years now. I'm currently homeschooling 2 of our 3 sons and I have over 5 years experience homeschooling.

Top 7 Homeschooling Myths—Debunked!

Homeschooling has grown in popularity, yet many misconceptions still surround it. If you're considering homeschooling, you may have heard some of these common myths. Let's set the record straight!

1. Homeschooled Kids Lack Socialization

One of the biggest myths is that homeschooled children miss out on social experiences. In reality, homeschoolers often engage in co-ops, extracurricular activities, sports, and community events, allowing them to build strong social skills in a diverse environment.

2. Parents Must Be Certified Teachers

While teaching experience can be helpful, most states do not require homeschooling parents to have a teaching degree. With the right resources, curriculum, and dedication, parents can successfully educate their children.

3. Homeschooling Is Expensive

Homeschooling can actually be more affordable than private schooling. Families can tailor their curriculum to fit their budget, use free online resources, and join homeschool groups that offer shared learning materials.

4. Homeschooled Kids Can't Get Into College

Many colleges actively recruit homeschooled students because they often demonstrate strong independence, self-motivation, and academic performance. Homeschoolers can take standardized tests, dual enrollment courses, and even earn scholarships.

5. Homeschooling Takes All Day

Unlike traditional school settings, homeschooling is flexible. Many families find that focused learning takes just a few hours a day, leaving time for hands-on experiences, hobbies, and family activities.

6. Homeschooling Is Only for Religious Families

While some families choose homeschooling for religious reasons, many others do so for academic flexibility, personalized learning, travel-friendly education, or to meet their child’s unique needs.

7. Kids Won’t Learn Discipline or Structure

Homeschooling actually fosters self-discipline and responsibility. With a customized learning plan, children often develop better time management and independent study skills.

If you've been hesitant to homeschool because of these myths, rest assured that homeschooling can be an enriching and successful educational path!
